A service appointment changes who can access and move your supercar. A little preparation can make that handover straightforward without turning your everyday security routine into a permanent exception. Start by establishing who needs to drive the car, why and for how long.
The same approach helps with detailing, valet parking and vehicle transport. Each involves different movements and different people, so the arrangements should be agreed for the actual visit. A workshop road test is a different situation from a car being moved a short distance inside a storage facility.
Before the appointment: identify the systems
Know which tracker and immobiliser are fitted and keep the correct operating instructions accessible. A generic video or instructions for an older product may describe a different process. If you are unsure, contact your installer or provider before the appointment rather than experimenting in the handover queue.
Tell the business that additional security is fitted and ask who will be responsible for moving the car. Share the operating information they need for the agreed task, while keeping personal codes and recovery information private wherever the system’s approved process allows.
Use the product’s intended service arrangement
Some immobilisers include a service or valet mode. Autowatch describes Ghost-III service mode as temporarily suspending the usual authorisation requirement so a third party can move the car without being given the owner’s PIN. Its automatic exit behaviour depends on the programmed configuration. It is not a universal speed limiter.
Follow the instructions supplied for your exact installation and ask your installer to explain when normal authorisation resumes. Do not assume every Ghost generation, tag system or phone-controlled immobiliser behaves in the same way. For IMMOSTOP, confirm the approved access arrangement for the device and account you use.
Coordinate the tracker separately
A tracker and an additional immobiliser may have separate providers and separate procedures. Ask the monitoring provider whether the planned service, transport or battery work requires any notification or mode change. Do not assume that changing one product’s setting also updates the other.
Explain the work accurately, including whether the vehicle will travel on a transporter or receive a road test. Use the provider’s official contact route and keep any confirmation. If an unexpected alert occurs, resolve it through the provider rather than treating repeated alerts as an inevitable part of a service visit.
Keep the handover specific
Agree the expected collection time and a contact number for questions. Establish who retains the physical key, any supplied tag and any other accessory. Do not leave every spare key or emergency item in the car merely because one person needs permission to move it.
If the work changes during the day, ask to be contacted before security arrangements are extended or altered. A clear point of contact helps prevent one member of staff assuming another has spoken to the owner.
At collection: finish the security handover
- Account for the keys and accessories you supplied.
- Confirm which service or transport settings were used.
- Restore normal authorisation following the product instructions.
- Confirm any relevant monitoring arrangement has returned to normal.
- Check normal operation in a suitable stationary setting before leaving.
If anything is unclear, speak to the installer or provider before assuming the system has re-armed. Never test an immobiliser by attempting to stop a moving vehicle. A service-mode exit should be understood as an operating procedure, not improvised as a road test.
Make future visits easier
Keep a short personal checklist with product names, support contacts and the questions to ask at booking. Store PINs and emergency information securely rather than on a sheet left in the glovebox. If another family member usually collects the car, make sure they understand the collection checks too.
When choosing new security, describe your servicing and valet routine as well as the vehicle. Read our immobiliser guide or everyday security plan, then discuss your setup with Autosecureshop. The handover should be part of the recommendation from the beginning.
Questions owners ask
Should I give a valet my immobiliser PIN?
Use the manufacturer’s approved service or access procedure where available, so your personal PIN can stay private. Ask your installer about the exact system fitted.
Does switching the immobiliser to service mode also update my tracker?
Do not assume it does. Check the procedure for each fitted system and contact the monitoring provider where necessary.
